A 24-hour strike is taking place across Greece on Wednesday, June 24, with workers from multiple sectors participating and many shop owners keeping their businesses closed.

The industrial action is affecting a significant part of economic activity, as employees are calling for improved working conditions, higher pay and solutions to long-standing workplace issues.

At the center of the demands are collective labor agreements, salary increases and protections for workers in key sectors of the economy. Employees in the Food and Beverage sector have raised concerns over negotiations for a new sector-wide agreement, warning that many workers could be left without coverage.

Protests planned in Athens and other cities

In the Attica region, the main rally is scheduled for 11:00 outside the offices of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), followed by a march toward the Ministry of Labor. Similar demonstrations are taking place in other major Greek cities.
