After several days of relatively stable conditions, parts of mainland Greece will see a brief spell of unsettled weather on Friday, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing during the afternoon, particularly over inland and mountainous areas.
The risk of rain stretches across several mainland regions, from the Peloponnese to eastern Macedonia, although most showers are expected to be localized and short-lived. Popular island destinations, including much of the Aegean and the Ionian Sea, are forecast to remain largely dry, with longer periods of sunshine.
In Athens, the day will begin with clear skies and warm temperatures before clouds build during the afternoon. A few areas, especially around the surrounding mountains, could see brief showers or isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to reach around 29C.
Thessaloniki is likely to follow a similar pattern, with sunshine dominating for much of the day before a small chance of afternoon showers develops over nearby higher ground. Highs will reach about 28C.
Parts of eastern mainland Greece may see occasional showers, while Evia, the Sporades and sections of the northern Aegean could also experience brief rain or isolated thunderstorms, particularly earlier in the day. In some western and northern inland areas, visibility may be reduced in the morning because of localized fog.
Temperatures across most of the country will range between 26C and 30C, while winds will remain relatively light, generally between 3 and 5 Beaufort.
Summer-Like Conditions Return This Weekend
The brief instability is expected to fade quickly, with Greece heading into a predominantly sunny and increasingly warm weekend.
Saturday will bring plenty of sunshine across most of the country. A few clouds may develop over northern mainland areas and mountainous regions during the afternoon, where isolated showers or thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. For most destinations, however, conditions will remain dry and favorable for outdoor activities.
Temperatures will edge higher, reaching 28C to 30C in most areas, while parts of Thessaly could see highs of 31C to 33C.
Sunday is forecast to be even more settled, with largely clear skies nationwide. Apart from a slight chance of brief showers over mountain areas during the warmest part of the day, dry weather is expected across the country.
Temperatures will rise again, reinforcing a distinctly summer-like pattern as Greece heads into the new week. Northerly winds will strengthen slightly over the seas, locally reaching 6 Beaufort, but are not expected to significantly affect conditions in most tourist destinations.
