Greek authorities have announced nationwide traffic measures ahead of the Holy Spirit holiday weekend, one of the year’s busiest travel periods as thousands leave urban centers for short getaways.

The measures will take effect on Friday, May 29, and remain in place through Monday, June 1, aiming to ease congestion and improve road safety during the three-day holiday.

According to the Hellenic Police, increased patrols should be expected along major highways, while additional security and traffic controls will be implemented at airports, ports, railway stations, and other high-traffic transport hubs. Extra measures will also apply in cities and areas hosting holiday events and celebrations.

Authorities also announced temporary restrictions on heavy vehicles. Trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons will be banned from major highways on Friday, May 29, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and on Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
