A Greek skier has gone missing after being buried by an avalanche in the Borovets resort, located in the Rila mountain rang in southwest Bulgaria, according to local Bulgarian media reports.

More than 25 rescuers are searching for the missing skier, while three other Greeks who were with him managed to escape unharmed.

As reported by local media outlet bTV, the accident took place in the afternoon on the Markujik slope. The Mountain Rescue Service was notified around 14:13 by an eyewitness from the group.

“Four Greek citizens who were snowboarding were buried by an avalanche. Three managed to free themselves. The skier is currently missing,” said a rescuer from the Mountain Rescue Service.

One of the rescue crew said the area where the avalanche occurred was difficult to access. The size of the avalanche was approximately 150 meters long and almost 30 meters wide.

All ski slopes in Borovets are closed at the moment, as the risk of avalanches is very high.
