Authorities have imposed a temporary ban on access to several forest areas across the Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece as the region faces a high risk of wildfires.

The measure, ordered by Halkidiki Deputy Regional Governor Giannis Koufidis, prohibits both pedestrians and all types of vehicles from entering designated forested areas in the municipalities of Kassandra, Sithonia and Aristotelis.

The restriction is in effect from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday as part of wildfire prevention measures.

Areas Affected

The access ban applies to the following locations:

Kassandra Municipality

  • The Kassandra Peninsula ridgeline, from Kassandrino to Agia Paraskevi.
  • The forest areas known as Arapis and Chalkovouni in the local community of Paliouri.

Sithonia Municipality

  • The Sithonia Peninsula ridgeline at Dragoundeli, stretching from the Beekeepers’ Cooperative to Sykia.

Aristotelis Municipality

  • The forest zone extending from Komitsa to Ouranoupoli, as well as the areas of Tsamia Stratonikis, Fysoka, and the Stratoni Shooting Range.

Authorities urged residents and visitors to comply with the restrictions, which are intended to reduce the risk of wildfires during a period of dangerous fire weather conditions.
