Homeowners or building managers in Greece are now required by law to register elevators in the National Elevator Registry by November 30, 2025, the Development Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The measure aims to enhance public safety and ensure proper maintenance of the country’s elevator network. Currently only 10% or some 80,000 of Greece’s estimated 900,000 elevators have been registered.

Speaking at a press conference this week, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos urged homeowners, apartment managers, and property representatives to act promptly, noting that the registration process is simple, free of charge, and crucial for safety.

“This marks the first step in a broader effort to monitor, maintain, and upgrade elevators nationwide,” he said.

Registration can be completed online by the property owner, the building manager (diacheiristis), or an authorized legal representative. Licensed elevator maintainers or installers may also handle the process.

To register, applicants will need:

-Taxisnet or public administration credentials

-owner or manager details

-lift address, number of stops, and installation year

-maintainer details

-existing certifications or CE conformity declarations (optional).

Listed elevators will receive a unique registration number confirming they are legal and safe for operation.
