The death of a 19-year-old woman on the Greek island of Kefalonia has been attributed to cardiac arrest, according to initial forensic findings, in a case that has raised serious questions and led to multiple arrests.
The young woman was found in a comatose state in a central square before being transported to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Early forensic assessments indicate that the cardiac arrest may have followed cocaine use at a hotel in the island’s main town. However, final conclusions are pending the results of toxicology tests.
Arrests and alleged cover-up
Police have arrested three individuals—two Greek nationals aged 23 and 26, and a 22-year-old foreign national—who are facing charges related to exposure to danger and violations of drug laws.
According to authorities, the suspects voluntarily presented themselves to police. Investigators, using surveillance footage and witness testimonies, were able to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident and the subsequent actions taken.
Evidence suggests the group had been together in a private space where drugs were consumed. One of the suspects is accused of attempting to clean the area thoroughly after the incident and hiding the victim’s mobile phone, in what authorities describe as an effort to conceal evidence.
Ongoing investigation
Police have seized mobile phones, clothing and personal items as part of the investigation. Forensic teams have also collected biological material from the location linked to the incident.
A full autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death, while prosecutors are reviewing the case as the suspects are brought before judicial authorities.
