A major infrastructure project to build a new internal water supply network in Kineta, a coastal town west of Athens, has officially entered the implementation phase following the publication of its tender.
The project, with a budget of €9.25 million, is funded through the Attica Regional Program 2021–2027. It will be carried out by Greece’s public water utility, EYDAP, with construction expected to be completed within 24 months of the contract being signed. Companies interested in bidding have until August 3 to submit their offers.
Reliable Drinking Water for Thousands
According to Attica Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias, the project will provide 5,100 households, representing around 21,000 residents, with access to clean drinking water.
Commenting on the announcement, Hardalias said the project marks a decisive step toward resolving a problem that has affected the area for decades. He recalled that during a previous visit to the construction site he had pledged to launch the tender promptly so that households would have access to the water network by 2028.

He described access to safe drinking water as a fundamental right, adding that the regional authority is pursuing infrastructure projects across Attica with secured funding and strict implementation timelines to improve residents’ daily lives.
Ending a Long-Standing Water Supply Problem
Once completed, the new network is expected to permanently address Kineta’s long-running water supply issues, serving both the town’s permanent population of around 21,000 residents and the thousands of seasonal visitors who arrive during the summer months.
The project includes the expansion, upgrading and replacement of approximately 58 kilometers of water pipelines across the urban areas located south of the Olympia Motorway.
Part of a €28 Million Investment Plan
The €9.25 million internal distribution network forms part of a broader €28 million public investment program aimed at modernizing Kineta’s water infrastructure.
The first phase of the program, worth €4.2 million, has been under construction over the past year. It includes a 15-kilometre water transmission pipeline connecting Megara with Kineta, as well as a new central reservoir with two chambers and a total storage capacity of 3,000 cubic meters.
At the same time, the Attica regional authority is funding another key project to strengthen the main EYDAP water network in western Attica through the construction of a new supply pipeline, with a budget of €14.65 million, excluding VAT.
All of these projects are financed by the Attica Region through the Attica 2021–2027 program, with EYDAP serving as the implementing authority.
Additional Expansion Planned
Authorities have also completed the study for a future expansion that would connect an additional 2,500 households located outside the current urban planning area to the public water network.
Funding for that phase, followed by the launch of the tender process, is expected in the autumn. Once completed, the overall program is expected to provide more than 7,600 households in the wider Kineta area with access to the EYDAP water network.
