A new security breach at Korydallos Prison has intensified concerns over safety at Greece’s largest correctional facility, after an unidentified man entered the perimeter in broad daylight, threw a package into a high-security wing, and escaped without confrontation.

The incident occurred Friday afternoon, according to journalist Vasilis Lambropoulos, who reported that the man approached the prison complex on foot, climbed over a roughly three-meter metal barrier, and walked into the area behind it without being stopped. The fence separates an external guard post from the main prison grounds.

Once inside, the intruder allegedly hurled a package over the wall of Wing 5, an area housing high-risk inmates, including offenders of Turkish origin previously found in possession of weapons. Despite the presence of police and prison guards, no one reportedly noticed the breach at the time.

The man then jumped back over the barrier and vanished.

The suspicious activity was eventually spotted by an employee in a building across from the facility, prompting a security alert. A subsequent search uncovered mobile phones and quantities of drugs, though authorities have not confirmed whether these items came from the thrown package or were found elsewhere during the sweep.

The revelation follows another troubling case in which a prison officer allegedly allowed an inmate out of detention to repair his car, further highlighting persistent weaknesses in the facility’s security system.
