A group of approximately 15 masked individuals carried out a nighttime attack along Patission Avenue in Athens, leaving behind significant property damage to shops and bank ATMs, according to Greek authorities.
The incident occurred shortly after 1:20 a.m., when the group exited a nearby urban rail station in the northern Athens area and moved on foot toward Patission Avenue, one of the city’s main roads.
Trail of Damage
As they advanced, the individuals smashed shop windows and vandalized bank ATMs, with the damage stretching for about 60 meters in the direction of central Athens. A telecommunications store was among the businesses affected.
Police Response
Police were alerted immediately and units arrived at the scene, but the perpetrators had already fled. During the subsequent operations, four individuals were detained and are being questioned in connection with the incident.
Investigation Ongoing
The investigation has been taken over by a specialized police security unit, which is collecting surveillance camera footage from the area and witness statements in an effort to identify and locate those responsible.
