A university employee at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) made a disturbing discovery on Monday after uncovering dozens of homemade incendiary devices hidden in the basement of the university’s School of Engineering.
The employee found three bags containing a total of 49 Molotov cocktails, sparking immediate concern for campus safety. Greek police units were quickly dispatched to the scene, along with a forensic investigation team from Northern Greece.
Authorities conducted a thorough search of the area and discovered additional materials used in the construction of incendiary devices, some of which included pyrotechnic components and small butane canisters—a sign of potential explosive enhancement.
According to police reports, the materials were meticulously hidden in specially designed compartments, raising suspicions about the preparation of large-scale unrest or illegal activities within the university premises.
