According to authorities, the driver of one tractor-trailer, a Bulgarian national, crossed the central median and entered the opposite carriageway toward Thessaloniki, where it collided with an oncoming truck.
The driver of the second truck, an Albanian national, was killed in the crash. A passenger traveling in the same vehicle was injured.
Highway Closed in Both Directions
The collision caused both trucks to veer off the road and overturn near the 123-kilometer mark of the Athens-Lamia National Highway, prompting police to temporarily shut down traffic in both directions.
Authorities diverted vehicles traveling toward Thessaloniki at the 115-kilometer mark near Kastro, while traffic heading toward Athens was rerouted at the 125-kilometer mark near Martino.
