Μake us preferred on Google The Municipality of Piraeus has added 19 new vehicles to its municipal cleaning fleet, including nine modern garbage trucks and 10 open-bed trucks, which are being gradually placed into service.
The vehicles were officially received at the municipality’s Waste Transfer Station, in the presence of Piraeus Mayor Yannis Moralis and Deputy Mayor for Cleaning and Recycling Panagiotis Reppas.
The new vehicles were purchased using the municipality’s own revenues and were selected based on the daily operational needs of the city’s cleaning services.
New garbage trucks for different needs
The new fleet includes five satellite garbage trucks, two 12-ton garbage trucks and two smaller garbage trucks.
The smaller vehicles are particularly useful for reaching and servicing areas where narrow streets make it difficult for larger trucks to operate.
The addition of the open-bed trucks will allow municipal services to respond more quickly to the collection of bulky items and intervene more rapidly in emergencies.
The municipality said the different types of vehicles will give cleaning crews greater speed, efficiency and flexibility in responding to needs across Piraeus.
The modernization of the fleet is also intended to improve working conditions and employee safety. The new equipment is expected to make daily work safer for the personnel operating on the city’s streets.
The municipality said efforts to renew its vehicle fleet will continue, with the goal of ensuring that cleaning services have the equipment needed to meet the demands of a large modern urban municipality.
Mayor highlights staff shortage
Moralis said maintaining a clean Piraeus has been a key objective of his municipal administration since 2014, describing it as a daily challenge addressed through systematic work, planning and sustained effort.
“The result, I believe, is visible to residents today. Piraeus is a clean city, although that does not mean there is no room for improvement,” Moralis said.
He attributed the city’s condition to the daily work of municipal employees, Reppas and continued investment in modern equipment.
“I am particularly pleased with the delivery of the new garbage trucks and open-bed vehicles, as they significantly strengthen our fleet,” Moralis said, adding that the purchases were targeted according to Piraeus’ needs and approved by the municipal council.
He also highlighted a major challenge facing the municipality: a shortage of personnel, particularly drivers.
“We have the vehicles, we have the equipment and we want to do even more,” he said.
The municipality wants to expand routes, strengthen municipal transportation, add more open-bed and washing vehicles, expand landscaping services for pruning and watering, and respond more quickly to the city’s daily needs.
“Our goal is clear: to maintain a clean Piraeus and make it even better,” Moralis said.
Cleaning services to be strengthened
Reppas described the arrival of the new garbage trucks and open-bed vehicles as another important step in the effort to modernize and strengthen cleaning services in Piraeus.
“These are modern and appropriate vehicles that meet the actual needs of the city and give us more possibilities for faster and more effective interventions in every neighborhood,” he said.
“Cleaning is a daily effort and requires continuous organization, proper planning and modern equipment,” Reppas said, thanking municipal cleaning workers for their daily work.
“With modern means and continuous work, we continue our effort for an even cleaner and more functional Piraeus,” he said.
