Greek authorities are intensifying their investigation after the body of an unidentified woman was found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens, with forensic examinations expected to provide crucial answers about the circumstances of her death.
The body was discovered around 1 p.m. on Saturday by a homeless man who had taken shelter in the abandoned building.
According to preliminary forensic findings, the victim is believed to be a woman in her early 30s, approximately 1.65 meters (5 feet 5 inches) tall. Her body was in an advanced state of decomposition, with investigators estimating that she had been dead for six to seven days before being found.
Initial observations reportedly found no obvious external injuries or signs of trauma. Authorities expect the full autopsy to clarify the exact cause and manner of death, which will help determine the direction of the investigation.
CCTV Footage and Missing Persons Cases Under Review
The investigation has been assigned to the Homicide Division, which is reviewing security camera footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify whoever transported the suitcase to the abandoned building.
Investigators are also cross-checking the case against files of missing women in an attempt to establish the victim’s identity.
Among the scenarios being examined is the possibility that the deceased may be a Chinese national who disappeared from the Athens area last May. Authorities have not confirmed any connection, and officials stress that all possibilities remain under investigation.
Forensic findings are expected to play a key role in determining both the victim’s identity and the circumstances surrounding her death as the investigation continues.
