Greece is set for a brief break in summer-like conditions as a weak weather system brings showers and storms to parts of the country on Monday, September 15, before sunshine and warmer temperatures return from Tuesday onwards.
According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, cloudier skies and local rain will affect central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and parts of northern Attica. Thunderstorms are possible early in the day, especially in the north. By Tuesday, however, conditions are expected to stabilize, with most of the country enjoying clear skies.
In Athens, the forecast calls for sunshine with scattered afternoon clouds and the possibility of short showers. Winds will blow from the north, reaching up to 6 Beaufort in the east, while temperatures will range from 21°C to 32°C.
In Thessaloniki, Monday will begin with showers and isolated storms, followed by temporary improvement and renewed cloud cover in the afternoon. Highs will reach around 30°C.
Elsewhere in northern Greece, temperatures will hover between 16°C and 31°C, while the west will see generally sunny skies with highs of 33–34°C inland. Southern regions and the Aegean islands are expected to remain largely dry, though strong northerly winds will prevail, especially across the Cyclades and Crete.
Looking ahead
- Tuesday (Sept. 16): Mostly clear nationwide, with only brief local clouds in the north. Slight rise in temperatures.
- Wednesday (Sept. 17): Fair conditions, with local showers possible in northeastern Greece.
- Thursday (Sept. 18): Sunny overall, though stronger northerly winds will develop in the Aegean, reaching 7 Beaufort. Slight drop in temperatures in eastern areas.
- Friday (Sept. 19): Mostly fair with minor cloud over the northeast. Stable temperatures around seasonal averages.
Overall, after Monday’s showers, Greece will return to late-summer weather, with plenty of sunshine, temperatures in the low 30s Celsius, and strong northerly winds in the Aegean through the week.
