A rare sighting of a nutria has sparked curiosity after the animal was discovered in an exhausted state on a beach in Epanomi, northern Greece, surprising both visitors and locals.
The nutria, a semi-aquatic rodent typically found in freshwater environments such as rivers, lakes, and wetlands, was found far outside its natural habitat along the coastline.
Authorities were immediately alerted and intervened to safely collect and care for the animal, ensuring it could recover its strength.
According to initial assessments, the nutria may have been carried by water currents or ended up in the sea after wandering away from its usual environment. Officials noted that such appearances in coastal areas are considered highly unusual for the species in this region.
