A 37-year-old refugee was arrested in downtown Athens after he sexually assaulted a group of 3 young women. The incident took place on the corner of Solonos and Charilaou Trikoupi streets on Friday night at around 10 at night.

A disturbing video that surfaced on social media shows the suspect launching himself at the females who were walking in the Exarchia neighborhood. The asylum seeker then grabbed one of the three 22-year-old women by the hair, violently throwing her onto the pavement while trying to rip her clothes off.

The victim’s two friends tried desperately to intervene and stop the attacker but were unable to pull him away as he continued his assault.

The woman began screaming for help, which ultimately led to the assailant being subdued by a passerby. He was subsequently arrested.

Authorities later identified the man as a 37-year-old living in Greece under political asylum. He is now facing charges of attempted rape. The victim told police that while on the ground, the man was shouting the word “sex” during the assault.

The refugee has been referred to the prosecutor and is expected to appear before the examining magistrate on Wednesday to give his testimony.
