Greek police are investigating the possibility of a serial killer in Thessaloniki after a 52-year-old man confessed to murdering a woman who had been missing since October 2024, while authorities examine a second suspicious death linked to the same location.

According to police sources, the man admitted to killing a 46-year-old woman on October 30, 2024, inside the basement of a building in Thessaloniki where the two were using drugs. He told investigators that he became irritated because the woman was shouting while talking on her phone and said he covered her mouth until she suffocated. He then claimed he disposed of her body in trash containers.

The case escalated after authorities discovered the body of a second woman on the rooftop of the same building. The woman had been reported missing in the summer of 2025, raising serious concerns about a potential pattern of lethal behavior.

In his statement regarding the second death, the suspect offered a different account. He claimed the woman, who he said also struggled with drug use, died in her sleep while they were together in the basement. Instead of alerting authorities, he allegedly moved her body and concealed it on the rooftop.

Police are now awaiting forensic examination results to determine whether the second death was caused by criminal activity. Investigators say the findings will be critical in assessing whether the suspect may be responsible for multiple homicides.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear before an investigating magistrate. Authorities are also reviewing other missing persons cases to determine whether he may be connected to additional disappearances.

The investigation began when officers noticed that two women reported missing at different times in 2025 shared a common acquaintance—the same 52-year-old man. Police placed him under surveillance before making the arrest.

Special police units continue to search the building where the bodies were found, as the inquiry remains ongoing and authorities work to establish the full scope of the case.
