Greek law enforcement authorities have arrested two Turkish nationals who allegedly attempted to smuggle dozens of pistols across the country’s border.
According to a police statement, the operation to locate and apprehend the suspects was carried out by officers from the Department for the Combating Illegal Trafficking and Trade of Objects, in coordination with operational units of the Subdivision for the Suppression of Organized Crime in Northern Greece. The operation took place in the Thrace region.
On the night of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, authorities identified two international transport trucks that had entered Greek territory through a border crossing in the Evros area. During surveillance, investigators determined that the driver of the first truck was acting as a lead vehicle, checking the route for potential police checkpoints.

When officers immobilized and searched the second truck, they discovered a travel bag and a suitcase hidden beneath the cabin bed and behind the driver’s seat. Inside, they found 50 pistols and 49 magazines, vacuum-sealed and concealed. The weapons were seized, along with the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt.
Authorities noted that the confiscated pistols bore no identifying marks, manufacturer details, or serial numbers, and are classified as “ghost guns.”
Criminal charges have been filed against the two suspects for participation in a criminal organization and violations of firearms legislation. They are expected to be brought before the competent prosecutorial authorities.
