Two men, aged 39 and 21, died from an apparent electrocution on Wednesday afternoon under still unclear circumstances in a southeast Athens coastal district.

Initial information has the two victims renovating a local residence or business in the Vari township, although an investigation is ongoing to determine exactly where the fatal accident took place and under what circumstances.

What is known is that the pair were transported by ambulance to the Asklipeio Hospital in Voula, where despite desperate efforts by attending medical staff the two men perished.

The incident sent shockwaves through the small village of Metochi, in central Evia Island, from where the two victims hailed.
