Tensions escalated at two Greek university campuses on Tuesday as another violent incident was reported at the University of West Attica in the western Athens district of Egaleo, coming just hours after serious unrest at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

According to initial reports, shortly after 4:30 p.m., a group of approximately eight to 10 individuals wearing helmets and gloves attacked two people under unclear circumstances. The victims sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Their injuries are reported to be minor.

Police detained eight individuals in connection with the incident, as investigations continue into the motives behind the attack and the identities of those involved.

The incident comes after other incidents of unrest and illegal activity in recent months at higher education institutions in the country, where authorities have repeatedly faced challenges in preventing episodes of organized violence, often involving small militant groups operating within or around university premises.
