A major wildfire is currently burning near Ancient Olympia in western Greece, with firefighting forces battling flames across three active fronts. The fire broke out in the Kamenas area, initially igniting in an olive grove before rapidly spreading to a nearby forest due to strong winds.

According to local reports, including ilialive.gr, the situation remains highly critical, as the fire continues to produce spot fires—a phenomenon where embers carried by the wind ignite new blazes ahead of the main fire line. This makes containment efforts particularly challenging.

Intense Ground and Air Response

A significant firefighting force has been deployed to the scene. As of now, the response includes:

• 17 fire trucks
• 2 ground teams on foot
• 5 aircraft
• 2 helicopters

These crews are working intensively to suppress the flames and prevent further spread, especially within the forested area. Despite the strength of the fire and the unfavorable wind conditions, no homes are currently at risk, according to the Fire Service.
