Shock has gripped the city of Drama in northern Greece following the killing of a 45-year-old police officer, at the hands of her 50-year-old partner, also a police officer. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through both the local community and the ranks of the Hellenic Police.
According to reports, the 50-year-old attacked his wife with a knife, inflicting severe injuries before leaving the scene and disappearing. The woman was rushed to the General Hospital of Drama and hospitalized in critical condition, but despite doctors’ efforts, she later died from her injuries.
The 45-year-old suffered at least eight stab wounds to the chest, back, and face.
Their child reportedly called emergency services, telling operators: “My mother is injured in the basement of our home.”
The couple had been separated, and the 50-year-old had moved out of the family home six months ago. Ambulance crews from Greece’s National Emergency Aid Center (EKAB) and police officers rushed to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital.
Suspect Found Dead on Hill Outside Drama
A short time later, a second call to emergency services led authorities to a densely vegetated hill outside Drama, where the 50-year-old was found dead inside his vehicle.
According to information available so far, investigators are examining the possibility that he died by suicide using his service weapon.
The man was well known in the sports community through his involvement in CrossFit and had achieved notable distinctions in competitions. He served in the Border Guard Department, while the 45-year-old was a member of the DIAS motorcycle police unit.
Authorities have identified similarities between this case and a recent double murder case in the city of Aigio in the Peloponnese.
Investigation Underway Into Motive
The Drama Police Directorate is conducting an investigation to determine the exact causes and circumstances that led to both the killing and the suspect’s death.
The inquiry remains ongoing, while official findings are expected to shed further light on all aspects of the tragedy.
Victim’s Chilling Social Media Post About Femicides
Two weeks before her death, the 45-year-old shared a Facebook post about the issue of femicides in Greece. The post read:
“The Greek family is supposedly under attack from the LGBTQ+ community and Pride, from malicious feminists, from the demographic crisis (meaning, according to some, from ‘useless women’ who refuse to get pregnant). But when a man slaughters his wife within earshot of his children, the Greek family is said to be experiencing only an isolated tragic moment. The blame falls on bad luck, on the femicide perpetrator’s overwhelming passion, or even on the victim herself—because who knows what she might have done to provoke her own slaughter.”
