Greece’s best pole vaulter, Emmanouil Karalis, delivered another sensational performance in his already decorated career, setting a new Greek national record, “soaring” over 6.08 meters at the Panhellenic Championships held at the Panthessaliko Stadium in Volos.
The 24-year-old athlete shattered his own previous record of 6.05 m, set during the World Indoor Championships in China this past March.
With this jump, Karalis—affectionately known as “Manolo”—becomes only the fourth pole vaulter in history to clear the 6.08 m mark, further cementing his status among the sport’s elite.
With his jump, Karalis has joined an elite club of athletes who have jumped over 6.08 meters, who are Armand Duplantis (6.28 m), Renaud Lavillenie (6.16 m), and Sergey Bubka (6.15 m)—all of whom the Greek vaulter will undoubtedly be aiming to surpass in the future.
Speaking to reporters after his jump, Emmanouil Karalis said, “It means so much to me… The truth is, I set the bar very high for myself, and sometimes I forget to realize that I’m actually living my dreams. When I was a kid, I couldn’t even imagine becoming the fourth-best pole vaulter of all time. It’s important to stay grounded, live in the moment, and have the right people around me. I’m looking forward to what’s next — I’m also expecting some new poles that will help me jump even higher.”
