In commanding fashion, Lefteris Petrounias secured his place in the rings final at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Leipzig. On Friday, May 30, the Greek champion will compete for his eighth European title, aiming to set yet another historic record. The state broadcaster ERT2 will air his performance live between 8:00pm and 8:45pm.
Known as the “Lord of the Rings,” Petrounias delivered a standout performance in the afternoon qualification session, earning 14.700 points and leaving no doubt about his dominance. His score remained unmatched throughout the men’s qualification rounds, earning him a well-deserved spot in the coveted top eight.
According to the draw, the Greek superstar will perform third among the eight finalists, giving him a strong position to further cement his legendary status in the sport.
Petrounias will face tough competition in the final, including Turkey’s Adem Asil (14.533), Britain’s Courtney Tulloch and Harry Hepworth (both scoring 14.400), and Armenia’s Artur Avetisyan (14.300). The final will start from a clean slate, with qualification scores not carried over.
Meanwhile, Antonis Tantalidis came close to reaching the individual all-around final, and Stefanos Tsolakidis narrowly missed out on a spot in the parallel bars final—both delivering commendable performances that unfortunately went unrewarded.
