Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas made an emphatic start to his Roland Garros 2025 campaign with a straight-sets victory over Argentina’s Tomás Etcheverry, winning 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in his first-round match.
Currently ranked No. 20 in the ATP world rankings, Tsitsipas dominated the match on Court Philippe-Chatrier, needing just two hours and 35 minutes to dispatch the World No. 139. This marks the third win in as many matches for Tsitsipas against Etcheverry.
The Greek ace faced resistance only in the opening set but quickly settled into rhythm, showcasing his signature heavy topspin forehand and aggressive baseline play. The win improves Tsitsipas’ overall record at the French Open to an impressive 27 wins and 8 losses, reinforcing his status as a serious contender on clay.

In the second round, Tsitsipas will face Matteo Gigante, a 23-year-old Italian ranked No. 167 in the world. While Tsitsipas is expected to be the clear favorite, Gigante’s recent rise through the rankings suggests a potentially competitive matchup.

She will take on France’s Jessika Ponchet Jacquemot (No. 138) in her opening round.
