Greek gymnastics icon Lefteris Petrounias on Friday scored 15.000 to claim the seventh European title in his illustrious career, which includes a gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics Games.

Nikita Simonov of Azerbaijan came in second and claimed silver (14.900), while the defending champion on the still rings, Turkey’s Adem Asil, settled for bronze this time out (14.900).

Called endearingly “Lord of the Rings”, the 33-year-old Petrounias made history at the European Championships in Rimini, Italy, as his seventh title is one ahead of Hungary’s Christian Berky, who won six gymnastic titles on the side horse between 2005 and 2012.

Petrounias, among Greece’s top athletes of all time, reached a total of 12 gold medals in major events, including three World Championships (2015, 2017, 2018), 2015 European Games and the Rio Olympics.
