Greek long jumper Miltos Tentoglou has been named among the three finalists for the title of Europe’s top athlete of 2026 following another standout season.
The Olympic champion is competing for the award after winning his fourth European championship title, finishing first at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships and recording the best long jump performance in the world this year with a leap of 8.66 meters.
Tentoglou’s rivals for the award are Swedish pole vault world-record holder Mondo Duplantis and Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi.
The Greek athlete’s latest European title adds to a career that has established him as one of the leading figures in the long jump. His 8.66-meter effort was also the leading mark recorded in the event during 2026.
Two other Greek athletes are also in contention for international honors in their respective sports.
Water polo players Stelios Argyropoulos and Dimitris Skoumpakis are among the five nominees for the World Aquatics award for the world’s best water polo player of 2026. Both were key members of the Greek national team that won the World Cup in Sydney.
Meanwhile, Greece’s women’s volleyball team has secured its place at the 2027 World Championship in the United States and Canada. The team is ranked 26th among the 32 teams that will compete, with formal confirmation for the men’s team still pending.
