The Greek prime minister hailed UNESCO’s decision to add Olympus to the World Heritage List as a major national achievement and a step toward protecting its natural and cultural legacy.

Greece’s legendary mountain has received international recognition for its unique combination of natural beauty, biodiversity and cultural significance linked to ancient Greek mythology.

The nomination is being considered by the World Heritage Committee during its meeting in South Korea, according to the Associated Press.

“Palmyra has always been a crossroads of civilizations and a symbol of dialogue and resilience,” the executive director of the Aliph Foundation said.
