The assessment of buildings affected in the municipal community of Aianteio on the island of Salamina has been completed, with teams of engineers from the General Directorate for Natural Disasters Recovery and State Support (GDAEFK) carrying out the required inspections and classifying buildings according to the extent of the damage.

A total of 22 buildings were inspected in Aianteio, of which seven were classified as green (no damange), 10 as yellow (some damage) and five as red (uninhabitable).

In detail:

  • Homes: 16 buildings, including seven green, six yellow and three red.
  • Commercial properties: Three buildings, all classified as yellow.
  • Churches and public buildings: No affected buildings were recorded.
  • Other buildings, including warehouses and stables: Three buildings, including one yellow and two red.

427 Inspections Across Disaster-Hit Areas in Greece

Teams from the relevant authorities carried out a total of 427 building inspections in affected areas across Greece within one week. According to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the figure reflects the operational readiness of the State Aid mechanism and the relevant services, whose teams were deployed according to the needs that emerged in each area.

The 427 inspections were distributed as follows:

  • Achaia – Municipalities of Aigialeia and Western Achaia: 19 building inspections, including three green, 16 yellow and no red buildings.
  • Argolis – Municipality of Argos-Mykines: 14 building inspections, including two green, 10 yellow and two red.
  • Boeotia – Municipality of Thebes: 14 building inspections, including one green, six yellow and seven red.
  • Western Attica – Municipalities of Mandra-Eidyllia and Megara: 293 inspections, including 93 green, 89 yellow and 111 red.
  • Rethymno – Municipalities of Agios Vasileios and Sitia: 70 inspections, including 31 green, 14 yellow and 25 red.
  • Phocis – Municipalities of Delphi and Dorida: 17 inspections, including one green, 10 yellow and six red.

Of the 427 buildings inspected, 131 were classified as green, 145 as yellow and 151 as red.

The Damage

Authorities also carried out a total of 311 follow-up inspections of homes, distributed by area as follows:

  • Achaia – Municipalities of Aigialeia and Western Achaia: Three homes — one green and two yellow.
  • Argolis – Municipality of Argos-Mykines: Five homes — two green, one yellow and two red.
  • Boeotia – Municipality of Thebes: Four homes — one green and three yellow.
  • Western Attica – Municipalities of Mandra-Eidyllia and Megara: 261 homes — 92 green, 68 yellow and 101 red.
  • Rethymno – Municipalities of Agios Vasileios and Sitia: 28 homes — 13 green, five yellow and 10 red.
  • Phocis – Municipalities of Delphi and Dorida: 10 homes — one green, six yellow and three red.

Overall, the follow-up inspections classified 110 homes as green, 85 as yellow and 116 as red.

Inspections to Continue in Eastern Mani

Authorities are continuing to record and assess the impact of the flooding that struck Eastern Mani on August 15, 2026.

In the Municipality of Eastern Mani, specifically the municipal community of Oitylo, GDAEFK teams carried out a total of 27 inspections to accurately assess the condition of buildings and document the damage.

The inspections identified:

  • 12 green buildings
  • Eight yellow buildings
  • No red buildings

Among commercial properties, five buildings were classified as green and one as yellow, with none placed in the red category.

One public building was classified as green, while one building in the other buildings category was also classified as green.

Inspections in Eastern Mani will continue tomorrow, with authorities aiming to complete the assessment of affected areas and establish a comprehensive, documented picture of the extent of the damage.

Deputy Minister Katsafados to Visit Halkidiki

Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados will travel to Halkidiki tomorrow, accompanied by Secretary-General for Natural Disasters Recovery and State Support Petros Kampouris, for meetings with local authorities and representatives of organizations in the area.

The visit follows the wildfire that broke out in Kassandra on August 13 and is intended to provide an immediate update on conditions in the area, the progress of inspections and the needs identified so far.

GDAEFK teams have already carried out the first inspections in the municipal community of Kassandreia. To date, nine buildings have been inspected, with two classified as green and seven as yellow. No buildings have been placed in the red category.

According to a ministry statement, inspection teams remain in the area to complete the damage assessment and promptly evaluate any additional needs that may arise.

As part of the visit, a broad meeting will be held at Kassandra Town Hall, attended by the mayor, members of the municipal council, representatives of the regional authority and local organizations.

The meeting will focus on assessing the situation, reviewing the progress of inspections and damage assessments, and determining the next steps for the immediate activation of state aid and recovery procedures.
