Visitors and residents on Crete will have the chance to catch Greek theater productions free of charge during the “Theater Days” series, which kicks off on Tuesday, August 18, and runs through to September 18.
Organized by the Region of Crete, the cultural initiative brings more than 23 performances to over 19 villages and towns across the island.

Performances are scheduled across Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lasithi, with venues ranging from village squares and schoolyards to theaters and cultural centers.
According to the Region of Crete, the initiative aims to showcase the diversity of artistic expression and the work of the island’s theater groups. It also seeks to strengthen community participation and create opportunities for people to come together, exchange stories and experiences, and reconnect through culture.
Participating theater groups this year include O Apo Mimon, Tessera, Ektos ton Tihon, Arima Puppet Theater, Notos, the Ierapetra Association of Friends of Theater, Schema 7, The Garden of Sarchos Crete, Rolistes-Theatrodromio, Omma Studio, Thea Tron, and Mnimi-Kydonia Theater.
The program offers a mix of performances, including comedies, puppet shows, well-known Greek plays and social satire, giving audiences of different ages and interests a broad selection of productions to choose from. Visit the Region’s official website for the full program.
