The Greek-owned cargo ship Eternity C, operating under the Liberian flag, was attacked by Houthi rebels off the coast of Yemen on Monday and has since sunk in the Red Sea. According to a statement released by the ship’s managing company, Cosmoship Management, the current toll includes one confirmed fatality and four missing crew members.
Company Confirms Casualties, Seeks Verification of Hostage Claims
Cosmoship Management confirmed on Thursday that one crew member has been found dead following the strike, while four others remain unaccounted for. The company noted that it is actively working through various channels to verify claims made by the Houthi rebels that they may be holding some crew members captive.
Efforts are underway to clarify the situation as quickly as possible.
Communication with Families and Search Support Ongoing
The company also emphasized that it remains in close contact with the families of the affected crew, providing regular updates and support during this critical period.
In a call for assistance, Cosmoship Management has requested that all vessels currently operating in the Red Sea region lend support to the ongoing search and rescue efforts. This appeal underscores the urgency and gravity of the situation as the maritime community responds to yet another attack in a region that has become increasingly volatile.
Part of a Broader Pattern of Attacks
The attack on Eternity C marks one of the latest in a series of maritime assaults carried out by the Yemen-based Houthi group, which has declared its intention to target vessels it perceives to be connected with Israel. This incident adds to growing concerns about the safety of commercial shipping through critical trade routes in the region.
