Powerful explosions shook Tehran in the early hours of Sunday as fighting raged in Lebanon between Hezbollah and Israeli forces seeking to take control of the country’s southern sector, while Yemen’s Houthis fired two missiles at Israel and warned of direct intervention if strikes on Iran continue.

The widening conflict drew in additional US military assets, with American Central Command (CENTCOM) announcing in a post on X — published also in Farsi — that sailors and Marines from the USS Tripoli had arrived in the CENTCOM area of responsibility on March 27. The America-class amphibious assault ship serves as the flagship of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, comprising approximately 3,500 sailors and Marines along with transport aircraft, strike aircraft and tactical amphibious equipment.

The next moves by Washington remain unclear, as both President Trump and senior officials continue to send contradictory signals even as additional US forces flow into the region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened to target Israeli and U.S.-affiliated universities in the Middle East, following what Tehran said were attacks on academic institutions in Tehran.

Ten Kuwaiti Soldiers Wounded in Iranian Attack

Kuwait’s military said Sunday that ten of its soldiers were wounded after an attack struck an armed forces installation. The Kuwaiti military said it had detected 14 ballistic missiles and 12 hostile drones in its airspace over the preceding 24 hours. One strike hit a military camp, wounding ten personnel — who are receiving medical treatment — and causing material damage at the site, the military said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan hosted talks on Sunday with Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia as part of efforts to mediate an end to the war involving Iran, with early discussions focusing on proposals to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, sources familiar with the matter said.

Foreign ministers from the three regional powers arrived in Islamabad for the talks, which come as Tehran warned the United States against launching a ground offensive and global oil prices surged amid ongoing clashes involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
