Μake us preferred on Google Greece ranked last among the 27 EU member states in the share of people who checked the truthfulness of information or content they encountered on internet news sites or social media, with a rate of 9.78% in 2025, according to a Eurostat survey.
The indicator covers people aged 16-74 who said they had checked the truthfulness of online information during the previous three months. The EU average was 29.16%, while the highest national rate was recorded in Ireland at 63.64%, according to the European Commission’s Digital Decade data.
The measure refers specifically to people who encountered information or content they considered untrue or doubtful and subsequently checked its accuracy, rather than to all internet users routinely fact-checking information.
Greece’s 2025 rate was also substantially below its 18.66% figure in 2023, according to European Commission data.
