Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday with United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, holding talks focused on regional developments and deepening bilateral ties.
Mitsotakis’ visit was the first by a European leader after recent attacks.
The Greek prime minister condemned recent Iranian attacks against the UAE and expressed Athens’ solidarity, while reiterating Athens’ support for a diplomatic solution aimed at ensuring long-term peace, stability and security in the region. UAE state media in recent months have highlighted concerns over regional tensions and the need to safeguard stability and economic flows.
The Emirati president thanked Greece for its support, as both leaders emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation under international law as a cornerstone of global trade, supply chains and economic prosperity – a priority frequently underscored in UAE media coverage regarding maritime security.
They also reaffirmed the strength of their strategic partnership, particularly in economic cooperation and investment.
During the visit, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in artificial intelligence and technology, reflecting the UAE’s broader push, as reported widely in mainstream Emirati media, to position itself as a global hub for advanced technologies and innovation.
