Legal proceedings have begun in the Dominican Republic following the severe boating injury of 22-year-old Survivor Greece contestant Stavros Floros.

A closed-door hearing was scheduled Friday in Santo Domingo in the case identified as “Stavros Floros versus the captain of the boat responsible for the serious injury.” Authorities are expected to decide whether restrictive measures — including detention, bail or house arrest — should be imposed on the skipper while the criminal investigation continues.

Court documents classify the case as a criminal matter involving bodily harm under Article 309 of the Dominican penal code. The pilot is listed as “arrestado,” officially confirming his arrest after conflicting reports earlier this week.

Floros was critically injured near Saona Island during a spearfishing outing after being struck by a tourist boat. Reports say he suffered a partial lower leg amputation and major trauma to the other leg. Production of Survivor Greece was later suspended.

Speaking to Greek media, Floros’ mother said her son remains hospitalized but optimistic, saying he told her: “Mom, why should I be sad? I’m alive.”

She also said the divers had fielded surface marker buoys in the water at the time of the accident. Floros’ father stated it took around 40 minutes for his son to reach the hospital while heavily bleeding.

Local media reports from Greece this week confirmed tht Dominican authorities had opened an investigation shortly after the incident.
