Final Countdown for Greece Before Eurovision

Greek singer Akylas attended farewell event at the Austrian ambassador’s residence in Athens ahead of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, marking the competition’s 70th anniversary

Greece has entered the final phase of preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place this year in Vienna, with a ceremonial event held Tuesday evening at the residence of the Austrian ambassador in Athens.

Greek representative Akylas attended the gathering alongside Giannis Papadopoulos, president of ERT, just days before the Greek delegation’s departure for the Austrian capital.

The event, hosted by Austria’s ambassador to Greece, Greta Fölk, formed part of the celebrations marking 70 years of the Eurovision Song Contest. This year’s contest also carries added significance, as Austria hosts Eurovision for the third time.

Music and diplomacy combined

Held at the ambassadorial residence, the evening brought together journalists, media representatives, foreign diplomats and distinguished guests, blending cultural diplomacy with the celebratory spirit of Eurovision.

Speeches were delivered by Papadopoulos, Ambassador Fölk and Akylas, who highlighted the importance of the contest as a platform for European creativity and cooperation.

Akylas also performed his Eurovision entry “Ferto,” along with “Rise Like a Phoenix,” the winning Austrian song from 2014, adding a symbolic touch to the evening ahead of Greece’s participation.
