Greece’s National Meteorological Service has issued red warnings for the Sporades islands and Evia as a severe weather system that battered Attica on Friday afternoon moves eastward, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and locally gale-force winds forecast to persist through Saturday morning.
The red alert covers the Sporades and central and northern Evia, where intense storms are expected through the early hours of Saturday. High-risk warnings also apply to the northeastern Aegean islands of Lemnos, Thasos, and Samothrace, as well as coastal areas of Magnesia, with conditions expected to ease by early morning.
The main hazards include violent squalls with locally storm-force winds, intense lightning activity, and the risk of localized hail.

Conditions are expected to improve across most of the country during Saturday, though scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue in eastern mainland areas and the Aegean through the afternoon. The rest of the country will see generally clear skies with brief cloudy spells inland at midday. Northerly winds of four to six Beaufort, locally reaching seven in the Aegean, will ease during the day. Temperatures will drop slightly in eastern areas, reaching highs of 28-29 degrees Celsius across most regions, with isolated spots in the mainland, Crete, and the Dodecanese touching 30 degrees.
In Athens, scattered rain and isolated early-morning thunderstorms will give way to improving conditions from midday, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 28 degrees and northerly winds of four to five Beaufort easing through the afternoon.
Thessaloniki can expect cloudy skies with light rain clearing to sunshine, with temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees and northerly to northwesterly winds of four to six Beaufort easing by afternoon.
In Macedonia and Thrace, western Macedonia will be mostly clear with brief cloudy spells at midday, while other areas will see intermittent cloud and local showers, with heavier conditions on Thasos and Samothrace in the early hours before improving by late afternoon.
