The Historical Museum of Ermoupolis on the Greek island of Syros will screen Roman Holiday, William Wyler’s 1953 romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, on Saturday, August 29.
The museum will open at 7 p.m., allowing visitors to explore its collections before the screening begins at 8:30 p.m. Admission includes the museum visit and a choice beverage between wine or the themed “Roman Holiday” cocktail, served in the courtyard or on the museum’s loggia. The film will be shown in English with Greek subtitles.
The screening continues the museum’s summer exploration of classic movie romances, following last year’s presentation of Casablanca.

A cinematic journey through Rome
Released in 1953, Roman Holiday follows a princess who escapes the confines of her official duties during a visit to Rome and encounters an American journalist. Hepburn stars opposite Peck, with Eddie Albert also featured in the cast.
The film received 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won three Oscars. Hepburn won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance, marking a major breakthrough in her film career.
A romance for Ermoupolis
The museum has framed the screening as a celebration not only of cinematic romance but also of Ermoupolis and its historic architecture.

Ermoupolis is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, and the museum emphasizes the city’s strong Italian architectural influences. The Historical Museum itself occupies a building designed by Italian architect Pietro Sampo.
That connection provides the setting for the museum’s cinematic journey to Rome, where Roman Holiday was filmed entirely on location. The organizers hope the film will complement visitors’ own walks through the streets and history of Ermoupolis.
