The Greek Ministry of National Economy and Finance submitted a proposal to the European Commission for the revision of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, known as “Greece 2.0,” on Thursday, May 15. This move aims to ensure the complete and effective utilization of the financial resources available to Greece from the Recovery Fund.
The core objective of the revision is to guarantee that every euro allocated to the country is efficiently deployed to support growth and resilience.
A key aspect of the proposed changes is the assurance that there will be no reduction in the plan’s financing. Instead, budgets for high-demand projects are being enhanced. To optimize resource management, adjustments include reallocating budgets or moving projects to other financial tools for technical or administrative reasons.
New projects are being added to the “Greece 2.0” plan, primarily focusing on enhancing citizen safety and upgrading transportation infrastructure. Among these projects is the comprehensive security upgrade of Greece’s ten largest railway tunnels through the use of smart systems.
Plans also include the creation of intelligent crosswalks near schools and the development of autonomous smart lighting networks on key roadways, managed by the country’s 13 Regional Authorities. Furthermore, the acquisition of 175 additional electric buses for Athens and Thessaloniki aims to modernize urban transportation.
In the field of education, the plan seeks to expand digital learning by integrating more interactive learning systems into schools across the nation, further advancing the concept of the digital classroom.
Public health services are also set to benefit, with a project to extend the digital infrastructure of the healthcare system, simplifying and streamlining everyday processes for citizens.
Additionally, the implementation of the Unified Digital Map will be expanded with the introduction of a system for recording illegal constructions using satellite imagery and drones. This innovative approach is expected to enhance oversight and ensure better urban planning and environmental protection.
