Greek finance minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced a new support package aimed at easing pressure on the economy and households on Tuesday.

According to the minister, an increase in the minimum wage came into effect from today in both the private and public sectors, rising to 920 euros. The measure is expected to boost workers’ incomes and support purchasing power amid ongoing cost pressures.

At the same time, a new set of support measures has been introduced to address the impact of the energy crisis and rising prices. These include a horizontal fuel subsidy of 20 euro cents per liter for diesel. In addition, a new “Fuel Pass” scheme—equivalent to 36 cents per liter—is set to be rolled out in the coming days, covering three in four vehicle owners.

The package also provides for a 15% rebate on fertilizer costs to support the agricultural sector, as well as compensation for ferry operators to help contain ticket prices and shield island residents and travelers from rising transport costs.

“This is not the end of interventions, but the beginning of continuous support,” the minister said.

“We will continue to intervene for as long as necessary, with responsibility and with the aim of strengthening citizens’ incomes, maintaining stability in the country and preserving social cohesion,” he added.
