According to ERTnews, following his meeting in Damascus, Gerapetritis highlighted Greece’s role as a reliable interlocutor with the Arab world, emphasizing the country’s commitment to ensuring peace and prosperity in the region.
As reported by ERTnews, Minister Gerapetritis stated:
“I met today in Damascus with the transitional President of Syria and the Foreign Minister.
We discussed the new institutions in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. These institutions must be based on the rule of law. They must be inclusive and tolerant institutions. They must also be fully compatible with International Law, and particularly with the Law of the Sea.
Greece is actively present in the region, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, a strong member of the European Union, with particular interest due to the Christian populations in the area. As a reliable interlocutor with the Arab world, Greece will be present to ensure peace and prosperity in the region.”
