Μake us preferred on Google Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived in Paris on Wednesday, to attend the International Space Summit , where he is also scheduled to meet French President Emmanuel Macron.
Mitsotakis will take part in the two-day summit at the Grand Palais, initiated by Macron and co-chaired by France and Germany. The event brings together around 2,000 participants from 120 countries across politics, science, technology and business.
As part of his visit, Mitsotakis will meet with Macron and attend an official dinner hosted by the French president at the Élysée Palace in honor of the participating heads of state.
Space becomes a growing area of competition
The central focus of the summit is the governance of outer space, which is increasingly becoming an arena of geopolitical and economic competition.
According to diplomatic sources, space is directly connected to defense, telecommunications, data management, climate change and technological autonomy.
The summit’s discussions are organized around three main pillars.
- International cooperation: Addressing the challenges of the global space economy.
- Science and exploration: Harnessing space technology as a tool for humanity’s future.
- Space security: Strengthening security through dialogue, defense initiatives and partnerships.
Defense summit and absences
The program on Thursday, includes an official session featuring statements by heads of state and government.
A separate defense summit will also be held at Hotel Les Invalides, bringing together European Union member states, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway and Ukraine.
Russia, Iran and North Korea have been excluded from the summit.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will also be absent because of parliamentary commitments. The United States will have limited representation, while prominent business figures including Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have canceled their participation.
