Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said his government has one year remaining in its constitutionally mandated term and pledged to intensify efforts to deliver key reforms and public projects before the end of its mandate.

Speaking during a regular monthly meeting with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas on May 20, Mitsotakis said the coming months would require faster implementation of government policies and greater focus on citizens’ everyday concerns.

Focus on Government Priorities

The prime minister said the government would concentrate on completing outstanding commitments linked to Greece’s Recovery Fund by the end of August, adding that numerous projects are expected to be inaugurated in the coming months.

According to Mitsotakis, these projects will demonstrate how recovery fund resources have been used to support economic growth and social cohesion.

“Another year remains until the constitutional completion of our term,” he said, stressing that the challenges ahead require an acceleration of government work.

Cost of Living Remains a Key Concern

Mitsotakis acknowledged that rising living costs remain a major issue for households, arguing that ongoing international tensions and higher energy prices have worsened inflationary pressures.

As part of the government’s support measures, he announced that most families with children will receive an extraordinary payment of €150 per child next month. The measure forms part of a broader €800 million support package introduced this year to help households cope with higher living expenses.

The prime minister also revealed plans for an upgraded version of the government’s consumer price comparison platform, designed to provide citizens with real-time information on supermarket prices and discounts in an effort to increase market transparency and help consumers find better deals.

Public Services and Infrastructure

Mitsotakis highlighted several initiatives aimed at improving public services, including the inclusion of nurses in the category of hazardous and arduous occupations, a move that recognizes the demands of their profession.

He also pointed to ongoing efforts to modernize public transportation, including the rollout of new electric buses and upgrades to older rail services.

President Calls for Continued Delivery

During the meeting, President Tasoulas praised recent improvements in Greece’s defense capabilities and emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in government work.

He noted that addressing everyday challenges remains a demanding task, urging the government to continue delivering tangible results during the remainder of its term.

Tasoulas also referred to development projects and infrastructure improvements in border regions, saying residents expect continued investment and support.
