The next President of Greece, Konstantinos Tasoulas, will be sworn in on Thursday, as the ninth President of the Hellenic Republic.

At 11 a.m., Konstantinos Tasoulas will arrive at the Hellenic Parliament to take the oath of office. Immediately afterward, he will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before heading to the Presidential Mansion to officially assume his duties.

More specifically, at the entrance of Parliament, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Speaker of the House Nikitas Kaklamanis will welcome Tasoulas and escort him to the Plenary Hall. The First Vice-President, Giannis Plakiotakis, will accompany Archbishop Ieronymos into the chamber, where the latter will perform the blessing.

The swearing-in of the new President will take place at the Speaker’s podium. To his left will be Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while to his right will stand Nikitas Kaklamanis and the Archbishop. Tasoulas will recite the oath as stipulated in Article 33 of the Greek Constitution.

The oath states:
“I swear in the name of the Holy, Consubstantial, and Indivisible Trinity to uphold the Constitution and the laws, to ensure their faithful observance, to defend the national independence and territorial integrity of the country, to protect the rights and freedoms of the Greek people, and to serve the general interest and the progress of the Greek Nation.”

The Handover Ceremony at the Presidential Mansion

Later, Tasoulas, accompanied by the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House, will visit the office of Nikitas Kaklamanis, where the leadership of the Armed Forces will be awaiting them. Following this, all three will proceed to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where they will take their designated positions alongside the heads of the military branches.

After laying the wreath, Tasoulas will inspect the honorary guards. Immediately afterward, he will proceed to the Presidential Mansion, where Katerina Sakellaropoulou will be waiting for him at Herodou Attikou Street for the official handover ceremony.

Konstantinos Tasoulas becomes the ninth individual to assume the highest state office since 1974. His predecessors include:
