“With our congress, we are all together launching the struggle for the great political change that the Greek people need,” PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis stated to TO VIMA.
Mr. Androulakis launches a fierce attack on New Democracy, accusing it, among other things, of pursuing policies that multiply social dead-ends, saying it treats the state as a spoil of war, uses institutions as instruments of power, and is wholly given over to clientelism.
He states that for PASOK, revealing the full truth about the wiretapping scandal is a matter of democracy and national security, emphasizing that these sick practices must come to an end.
Finally, he calls on every democrat who in the past made different choices or abstained from the ballot box, and every moderate citizen who wants prosperity and stability, to join PASOK in the struggle for a new Change.
The full statement by Nikos Androulakis:
Today, with our congress, we are all together launching the struggle for the great POLITICAL CHANGE that the Greek people need — to put an end to the conservative policies that increase inequality, degrade the quality of democracy, and multiply social dead-ends while shrinking Greece’s horizons.
Monopolies and cartels in energy, food, banking, and healthcare are accumulating super-profits, while small and medium-sized businesses are excluded, wages are eroded by the cost of living, rents are skyrocketing, and private debt is swelling.
The New Democracy government squandered an entire Recovery Fund without productive reconstruction and without fair distribution. That is why, from 2028 onwards, growth rates will fall back to the low level of 1%.
Just two days ago, EUROSTAT demolished the narrative of an alleged “economic miracle.” Greece’s per capita GDP in purchasing power terms fell in 2025 and now stands in last place in Europe, alongside Bulgaria. The country has “frozen.” Everyone is moving faster than us.
New Democracy is unrepentant — the party that led the country into the economic misadventure of the bailout memoranda and bankruptcy continues to treat the state as a spoil of war, wholly surrendered to clientelism, and views institutions as tools of power that entrench privileges and immunity for the powerful.
For us, it is a matter of democracy and, above all, of national security that the full truth be revealed regarding the scandal of illegal wiretapping, the dark shadow state constructed by the Prime Minister and the Maximos Mansion (the PM’s residence), and that all those responsible be held to account, however highly placed they may be.
Because if we do not put an end to these sick practices, we will merely be managing decline. What is needed are ruptures, and constitutional revision represents a great opportunity that must not be wasted.
I therefore appeal to every social force with whom we share common concerns.
To every democratic citizen who has made different choices or abstains.
To every moderate citizen who wants prosperity and stability.
The time has come for a new Change — a prerequisite for the economic and social stability of this country.
Together we will win the Greece we deserve.
