Humanity, solidarity, and love are the qualities that set the people of Evros apart, according to Soufli Mayor Panagiotis Kalakikos. In a social media post, Kalakikos highlighted an example of volunteer home building in Roussa for a young couple.

During a visit to the mountain village of Roussa, the mayor came across a touching initiative: the local community and village residents had joined forces to build a new home for a young family.

“An entire village, a whole neighborhood, one big family, all together, standing shoulder to shoulder, giving with their hearts to build a home for a young family.

In Roussa, people don’t just stand by and watch their neighbors’ joys and needs. They stand by one another. They give, they help, they share, and they move forward together. That’s the real strength of our region. The strength of humanity, solidarity, and love that brings people together,” Kalakikos said, congratulating “all the residents of Roussa, including our Bektashi and Alevi fellow citizens, for the example they’re setting,” because “through their actions they show that when a community has strong bonds, no family stands alone and no dream is out of reach.”

“Maybe this is the most beautiful message we can take away: a house is built with stone and brick, but a community is built with love, generosity, and solidarity,” the mayor of Soufli said.
