Public opinion over the issue of banning demonstrations and activism from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier monument in downtown Athens appears divided, according to results of an opinion poll released on Thursday evening.
According to the results of the poll, conducted by the Pulse firm and presented on the prime-time newscast of Skai TV, 46% of respondents said they agree or probably agree with the center-right government’s decision to draw legislation including the ban, among others, and ratifying a relevant amendment in Parliament. Conversely, 44% disagree or probably disagree with the imitative.

The opinion poll was conducted between Oct. 17 and Oct. 20 on a sample of 1,112 respondents with the right to vote.
In terms of political party preference, ruling New Democracy (ND) continues to comfortably lead its nearest rival, PASOK in this case, by a 15.5%-point lead.
The biggest worry expressed by respondents, echoing all other poll results of the recent period, is high cost-of-living, with a whopping 84% saying it was the primary problem they face.
ND’s figure of 29% in the specific poll is far ahead of PASOK’s 13.5%, yet below the figure needed to form a one-party government.
