Yanis Varoufakis, the outspoken former finance minister during the first half of 2015 who later founded a leftist political party, on Friday took to social media to bemoan the fact that he was summoned for a preliminary police investigation over his recent statement regarding personal drug use.

Speaking on a local podcast, the controversial economist-cum politician had said he’d taken “ecstasy” back in 1989 in Australia, reveling in the fact that he then danced for hours but then had a monstrous headache for another week.

“…I’ve taken ecstasy once, and it was an amazing experience…I remember dancing for 15–16 hours as if nothing was wrong, but I suffered for a week afterwards and never really recovered,” he said.

The anti-eurozone polemicist also said that he continues to find cannabis use pleasant, before clarifying that he can no longer obtain the drugs because “no one gives it to me”.
