The latest Henley Passport Index reveals which national passports offer the widest visa-free access worldwide in 2026, highlighting Europe’s strong presence and Greece’s position among the global leaders

The rollout of a new digital platform promises to streamline Greek passport applications, reduce delays and paperwork, and, starting in 2026, shorten waiting times for Greeks applying through consulates abroad

Once dominant, US and UK passports have slipped to record lows in global rankings limiting holders' access to destinations.

Just above the Greek passport, Japan and South Korea share the second spot, followed by a 3-way tie between Denmark, Finland, and Ireland.

The Greek passport is among the world's most powerful, ranking 6th and granting holders visa-free access to 189 destinations worldwide.

Greek passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 188 countries and territories worldwide out of a total of 227.

According to the annual Henley Passport Index, the Greek passport enables visa-free travel to 190 countries

Upon completion of the process, citizens are notified via email and SMS. Additionally, the declaration is sent to the citizen's personal Mailbox on gov.gr and carries the authentication features of gov.gr.
